Sleepy Hollow – New TV show

With the fall season, comes new TV shows. Have you checked out Sleepy Hollow on Fox?

The premise is that Ichabod Crane awakens after 150 years and finds himself, and his foe, The Headless Horseman, still in the creepy town of Sleepy Hollow.  (“creepy” being my own adjective, and not part of the promotional advertising for the show)

SleepyHollow_posterThe show is on Monday nights and I’m still intrigued after 3 episodes. The latest episode included the Sandman, and if I let it, I could have been very creeped out — I never realized the sandman put sand in children’s eyes to help them sleep, I thought he just came to pull kids into dreamland. TV can be so educational, can’t it? *smirk*

I like the characters so far, and find myself chuckling a few times during each episode at Ichabod’s observations of the modern world. I can’t remember the particular quote but it related to the sales tax on a cup of coffee — he couldn’t believe people weren’t up in arms over the exorbitant tax rate, since the Boston Tea Party started from much less.

Seeing him handle a flashlight for the first time was funny. And questioning a Starbucks on every corner (I question that too since the town is so small!)

Anyway, even though it’s categorized as adventure/drama/fantasy there’s a mystery to unravel each week through various real and supernatural clues. The modern-day characters have to start accepting that what they thought were bad dreams and myths are actual real events and people.

I’m not sure how far the show can go – there can only be so many bad critters to kill to avoid the Book of Revelations from coming true. I am very curious about whether or not Ichabod can cross town lines, or if he’s stuck in Sleepy Hollow for eternity.

Do you like the show?

Love this show! The Sandman was horrifying! The way he looked reminded me of the monster with the eyes in his hands from Pan’s Labyrinth and to me he’s one of the scariest movie monsters of all time. Awesome post!

  2. Haven’t seen the show, but I love the idea of commenting on media and mysteries!
