Where does SinCNE Go From Here?

By Pat Remick

Last night the members of your Sisters in Crime New England board converged upon Vice President Julie Hennrikus’ Somerville, MA, apartment — in person and virtually — to discuss where SinCNE should go from here.

These Board conversations are always stimulating — and so important to the vitality of our organization. And, like everything else today, the topics change constantly and it’s sometimes difficult to hit the moving targets. But at the core of all of our discussions is how to better serve a membership spread over six states and that ranges from those just thinking about writing a mystery to the multi-multi-published.

So whether you realize it or not, you have fellow mystery writers who are voluntarily spending their rare free time thinking about, and talking about, how to improve SinCNE for you and all of us.

We do it because we love this organization, just like all the Board members who served before us and the ones that follow (which just might include you!) It’s that kind of investment that makes ours such a vibrant, exciting chapter that provides incredible opportunities for a paltry $25 a year — from the opportunity to meet uber-agent Donald Maas at a substantial discount (with lunch), to the fabulous craft workshops, online classes, monthly updates from President Barb Ross, Speakers’ Bureau, Crime Bake Reception, Read Across New England, Beach Reads — and the list goes on, and on. Then there are the festivals and conventions where we try to have a presence to spread the word about Sisters in Crime and all that we offer to readers, members, bookstores, etc. We’re always trying to come up with new ways to make SinCNE the best it can be.

Soon you will be hearing more about some of the exciting things ahead that we discussed last night. But in the meantime, I’d like you to take a moment today to think about how SinCNE can better serve you — and also, ways that you might contribute to SinCNE, too. After all, it takes a village….

I have a wonderful new collection of quotations by my computer  and these seem appropropriate to SinCNE:

“Life is about the people you meet, and the things you create with them. So go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream and share your passion!”

  1. I think you guys are doing an amazing job. As a former prez i know how hard it is to serve such a broad range of members. I’m particularly grateful that there have more more events in CT. I haven’t always been able to make all of them but it’s nice to know that we’re not forgotten down here!

  2. Love what you all do… Dying to know, where ARE we going to go from here? Can you share any of the discussion?

  3. Great post Pat! And since you traveled the farthest to be here, I am very impressed that you also wrote this.

    Looking forward!

As you both know, there is always more we wish we could do, more we want to do, more we WILL do… But I’d say the current goal is Even More, Even Better and Even Faster!

  5. It was a great meeting. I’m amazed at all we pull off.
